MIT Unveils A Robot That Will Help You Deliver Your Baby We all know that robots are taking over the world as we know at the speed of light; and we are required to trust robots with delicate tasks like surgeries to the carriage of our expensive equipment. But this new robot calls for trust that even staunchest of tech supporters will hesitate in! Credits : everything4baby According to the latest research at MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, robots could eventually be used in as important roles as delivering your baby and assigning duties in labor  wards. Currently, robots are being employed in hospitals, but they are limited to less critical and mundane tasks like allotting medication to the patients. But can the robots work in a time critical, high pressure situation and be capable enough to cater for the patient needs and make assignment decisions? The researchers at MIT’s CSAIL have been working on this very phenomenon for the past two year...

This Palm-Sized Gadget Will Tell You Exactly How Much Power Each Device In Your Home Is Using

This Palm-Sized Gadget Will Tell You Exactly How Much Power Each Device In Your Home Is Using Whenever we talk about smart homes, we also discuss the issue of monitoring the energy usage of each electrical appliance. Imagine if we could tell which energy device is consuming extra energy, we can change our use behaviour and save both energy and money. The technology seen over the past years to monitor appliance energy consumption is only possible via complex wiring, individual appliance basis and expensive installation. For instance, a smart refrigerator or smart plug will tell you energy usage of a single device but what if there was a monitoring system that could cover the entire house? An accurate, small sized gadget that can tell you the consumption of every power load? Good news for you. MIT is currently working on it. A team of researchers under Professor Steven Leeb at MIT have created a technology that can indicate individual power consumption of each device being used ...

This New Diagnostic Device Can Detect Malaria In Just 5 Seconds

New Diagnostic Device Can Detect Malaria In Just 5 Seconds Every year, 200 million people are affected by a life threatening, mosquito-borne disease called  Malaria . Last year, approximately 438,000 people died of malaria ( with most deaths in sub-Saharan Africa) according to World Health Organization- despite the existing cure and preventive measures. Being a PhD student at MIT studying mechanical engineering, John Lewandowski said that early diagnosis of malaria is very important: “Early detection is very important, typically in the first five to seven days before symptoms arise, so that treatment can begin.” There are two methods to detect malaria. First is to take the blood sample of patient and observe it under the microscope to recognize the Plasmodium parasite and second is diagnostic test on blood drop, which gives a positive/ negative result, kind of like the pregnancy stick test. The main problem is that rural areas in Asia and Africa, where mala...

The creators of Sophia designed the bot to help the people in providing educational and customer services. The robot uses the cameras installed in her eyes to ‘read’ the human expressions and respond accordingly. Sophia can also adjust the look on her face to respond, react, and to make an eye contact. However, the creepiest thing is her intention to destroy the mankind.Sophia can give realistic expressions and also remembers the faces and her interaction with them that allows her to get smarter with time. Scary, right? Sophie even wants to have her own home and family, but her ‘legal’ status refuses to allow her this luxury. You can watch  the entire episode in this video: Despite her sinister plans, the incorporation of features like accurate facial expressions is a significant step forward in ...

Well, you are not alone with this wish! It seems that some Indian engineering students were so inspired and excited by the prospect that they actually went ahead and created an exoskeleton suit that could actually lift them above the ground. The student, Vimal Govin Manikandan and his team of other engineers revealed that they were originally inspired by the Avatar and Iron Man when they decided to build this cool looking exoskeleton.
