US Secretary of State, John Kerry, says the US government will be giving $600 million as assistance to Nigeria this year. He said this while speaking at the opening session of the U.S- Nigeria Bi-National Commission meeting in Washington DC yesterday March 30th. "Our development assistance this year will top $600 million, and we are working closely with your leaders – the leaders of your health ministry – to halt the misery that is spread by HIV/AIDS, by malaria, and by TB. Our Power Africa Initiative is aimed at strengthening the energy sector, where shortage in electricity has frustrated the population and impeded growth" he said

Sunderland football club in it's bid to stay away from another controversy after the Adam Johnson saga, has moved swiftly to sack Ivory Coast defender Emmanuel Eboue after the Ivorien was this morning slapped with a one year football ban by FIFA for refusing to pay his agent. The former Arsenal defender, aged 32, signed for the Black Cats earlier this month on a short-term deal until the end of the season. But that contract has now been torn up after it emerged that the former Ivory Coast international will not be available to feature. Eboue has been banned by FIFA for 12 months for failing to pay his former agent. He can return to action sooner than that if he pays an amount owed to his former agent Sébastien Boisseau. Eboue was initially ordered to pay the money in July 2013 and fined for failing to comply with the judgement in September 2014. The Lagos State Government has clarified reports making rounds on social media that the monthly environmental sanitation in the State has been outlawed, saying that the policy on the monthly exercise has not been reviewed for now. In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, the government said the erroneous story which was attributed to the State’s Commissioner for the Environment, Dr. Babatunde Adejare was inaccurate. Ayorinde said that Dr. Adejare was misquoted out of context when he indicated that the restriction of movement may be dispensed with, he did not in any way suggest that the monthly sanitation had been outlawed. A £200K Lamborghini belonging to Russian MMA fighter, Adam 'Beard' Yandiev was involved in a smash which tore the car apart killing an occupant instantly while another remains in a critical condition. The driver, 43-year-old mechanic Dmitry Shcherbatov, was killed instantly when the car smashed into a large lamppost in Moscow. The passenger reportedly suffered a broken leg and head injuries, and remains in a coma in hospital.

British boxer Nick Blackwell (right) is in an induced coma after suffering a bleed on the brain following a domestic title fight defeat to Chris Eubank Jr on Saturday night. The referee didn't stop the match and allowed it to go on until the tenth round, when a doctor indicated Nick Blackwell couldn't continue the fight due to severe brain injuries from punches by Chris Eubank Jr. For the referee to allow this fight to go on until the tenth round despite seeing the severe injuries inflicted on Blackwell from the first round up till the tenth round is so inhumane. That is the question the question on the lips of people who found the goat dangling precariously from an overhead cable by its horns along a road in Greece. The goat was later rescued by a group of men. In a first unsuccessful attempt, the men used a ladder to hook onto the goat and tried to shimmy the animal back towards trees. The leafy trees near the small town of Sykourio is where Dr Sandra Baxendell, a goat-only veterinarian, suspected it all began. "It looks like the goat got into a tree to eat some leaves and became attached to the wire that way," she said. "Or someone put it up there, but it's unlikely. Goats are known for getting up trees." In a second rescue attempt, the men tied rope to the goat's feet, before pulling the goat along the cable to safety. Before too long, the goat was able to go on its way.
